On Thursday the 1st October Gloucester City Homes (GCH) held its annual Garden Awards Ceremony.

The event, held at Kingsholm Stadium, celebrated the hard work and effort that residents put into maintaining their gardens across the City.

There were awards for various categories including Floral Garden, Hanging Baskets, Wildlife Garden, Communal Garden, Balcony/Patio Garden and Vegetable Garden. There were also two special recognition awards given; the Kingsholm Estate won the first for their work in creating beautiful displays, along with help from pupils at Kingsholm Primary School, and the second to community group ‘Grow Up Gloucestershire’ (from St James City Farm) for their project work in maintaining and transforming gardens around the City.

As winners of the Special Recognition Community Award, ‘Grow Up Gloucestershire’ were awarded with the Silver Cup that used to be presented as part of the original Gloucester City Council Garden Competition. This will be displayed in the Council’s Civic Suite and their name will be marked on a plaque.

All award winners received a certificate and gardening vouchers, which were presented by The Right Worshipful the Mayor of Gloucester Sebastian Field, Judge Rob Palmer from Grow Up Gloucestershire and GCH Chief Executive, Ashley Green.

After the presentation, there was a chance for residents to socialise and enjoy a delightful afternoon tea.

"We would like to thank everyone who entered this year, the standard was very high and it is great to see so many people taking pride and making a difference to the overall appearance of their communities", said Ashley Green, Chief Executive at GCH “Once again, the event was an excellent celebration marking the work and effort that residents have put in throughout the year. I would like to thank all who got involved and put so much back into their communities.”
